Freebirth & Unassisted Birth
Birth in your power, at home, with love
I support families planning to birth at home, with or without medical assistance. I trust your body and your baby. My role is to hold a calm space, offer steady reassurance, and walk beside you with care. If you begin at home and need to transfer to hospital, my support remains the same. Always love, never judgement.

My Ethos on Freebirthing or Unassisted Birth

I fully support a woman’s right to choose how, where and with whom she gives birth, including the choice to birth without medical professionals present, often called freebirthing.

Freebirthing is a legal and valid choice in the UK. No one can be forced to give birth in a hospital or to accept medical care they do not want. Every woman has the legal right to decline maternity services, including midwifery or obstetric care, and to birth at home on her own terms.

This choice is never made lightly. Families who decide to freebirth do so after careful thought, reflection and deep trust in their own bodies. For some, it is about feeling safest outside of the maternity system. For others, it is about reclaiming autonomy after a difficult or traumatic experience. Whatever the reason, this choice is rooted in strength, awareness and confidence.

I have experience supporting families who choose to freebirth. My role is not to advise, judge or intervene, but to walk beside you with calm, reassurance and compassion. I hold space for you and your family so you can feel seen, supported and respected throughout your journey. This may include pregnancy support, birth preparation, a steady presence during the birth itself or gentle care in the postpartum period.

I believe birth is a deeply personal experience and that women are already empowered. Sometimes we simply need the space, support and safety to reconnect with that power. Freebirth is one of many paths to bringing your baby into the world, and if this is the path you choose, I will support you wholeheartedly.

Freebirthing and the Law in the UK
Freebirthing, also known as unassisted childbirth, is legal in the United Kingdom. Every woman has the right to decline medical care and to birth without midwives or doctors present. These rights are protected under the principles of bodily autonomy and informed consent in UK law and medical ethics.

Here is what is important to know:
-
You cannot be forced to give birth in a hospital. Even if a healthcare professional disagrees with your decision, they cannot make you accept care you do not want.
-
You are allowed to give birth without a midwife or doctor present. There is no law that requires you to have a registered healthcare professional at your birth.
-
It is not illegal for a partner, friend or support person such as a doula to be present at a freebirth. As long as they are not acting as a medical professional or performing clinical procedures, they are not breaking any laws.
-
Social services should not be involved simply because a family chooses to freebirth. Birthing outside of the system is not grounds for child protection involvement.
It is important to be informed and confident in your choices, especially when discussing your plans with healthcare professionals. If you ever feel pressured or misunderstood, you have the right to ask for advocacy or bring someone you trust to appointments.
Freebirthing is a legal right and for many, it is a powerful, conscious and deeply meaningful choice. If you would like support in preparing for a freebirth, or simply want to talk through your thoughts and options, I am here for you.
