Postnatal Doula Support

Because having the baby is only the beginning.

So much focus goes into pregnancy and birth, and then suddenly your baby is here and you’re expected to just get on with it.

You’re recovering. You’re learning your baby. You might be feeding around the clock, running on very little sleep, trying to keep on top of everything at home and wondering when exactly you’re supposed to eat, shower or rest.

This is where postnatal support can make such a difference.

My postnatal doula support is centred around you, the mother.

Not taking over. Not coming into your home and telling you how things should be done. Not taking your baby away from you unless that is what you want.

I’m there to support you while you recover, find your feet and work out what life with your new baby looks like for you and your family.

What does a postnatal doula actually do?

The simple answer is: whatever helps you feel more supported.

Every family is different, so postnatal support looks different in every home.

Some days you may want me to sit with the baby while you shower and sleep.

Another day you might want someone to make you lunch, put a load of washing on and listen while you talk through your birth.

You might want reassurance while you get to know your baby's cues, some practical support with feeding and positioning, or simply another pair of experienced hands around the house.

My role is to make those early days and weeks feel a little less overwhelming.

Support can include:

  • Caring for your baby while you rest, sleep, shower or spend time with your other children

  • Making drinks, snacks and simple meals so that you are actually being fed too

  • Helping with light household tasks such as washing, tidying, bottles or baby-related jobs

  • Supporting you while you recover physically after birth

  • Practical support following a vaginal birth or Caesarean birth

  • Helping you get comfortable with feeding, winding, settling and handling your baby

  • Sitting alongside you while you work out what feels right for you

  • Helping you recognise your baby's cues and build confidence in caring for them

  • Supporting partners and other family members as everyone adjusts

  • Looking after baby while you catch up on much-needed sleep

  • Giving you space to talk about your birth and how you are feeling afterwards

  • Accompanying you and baby on your first walks or trips out if you want some extra confidence

  • Helping with older siblings while you spend time with your new baby

  • Simply being there so you don't have to do everything alone

Sometimes the most useful thing I can do is make you a cup of tea, put some food in front of you and hold the baby while you sleep.

Experienced support for you and your baby

Alongside my experience as a pregnancy, birth and postnatal doula, I also have experience working as a nanny.

That means I am very comfortable caring for babies and children, but my role as your postnatal doula goes much further than childcare.

My focus is you.

The aim isn't for you to become dependent on me. It is for you to feel rested, supported, heard and increasingly confident in yourself and your baby.

I won't arrive with a rulebook.

I'll listen to what you need, how you want to parent and what matters to your family, and I'll work around that.

Daytime ad hoc postnatal support

Daytime support is available between 9am and 6pm and is booked for a minimum of 4 hours.

You might use this time to sleep, have a proper bath, spend time with another child, attend an appointment, get out of the house or simply have somebody there who can take some of the pressure off.

9am-5pm

£30 per hour
Minimum booking: 4 hours

Evening ad hoc support

Those late afternoon and evening hours can sometimes feel like the longest part of the day, particularly when you've already been caring for your baby since the early hours.

Evening support can give you another pair of hands when you need them most.

This might include supporting you through feeds, settling baby, preparing food, helping with siblings or giving you the opportunity to get some uninterrupted rest.

5pm-9pm

£35 per hour
Minimum booking: 4 hours

Overnight ad hoc postnatal support

Sometimes what you need more than anything is sleep.

Overnight support can give you the reassurance of having an experienced person in your home while you rest.

What overnight support looks like will depend on how you are feeding your baby and what you are comfortable with.

If you are breastfeeding, I can bring baby to you when they need to feed and then support with winding, changing and settling afterwards so you can go back to sleep.

If your baby is bottle feeding or combination feeding, we can discuss how you would like the night to work so that you can get the longest stretch of rest possible.

Overnight bookings are available as:

9pm–7am, 10pm–8am or 11pm-9am.
