Freebirth Doula Support

Planning to birth at home without midwives?

You don't have to prepare for it alone.

I support families planning or considering freebirth with practical, emotional and non-clinical support throughout pregnancy, labour and birth.

My role isn't to tell you how to give birth.

It's to help you prepare, understand your options and own your decisions.

Freebirth is where my story as a doula began.

It was witnessing birth outside of the system that woke something up in me.

I saw what happens when a woman understands that the decisions are hers, the responsibility is hers and, ultimately, the birth belongs to her.

It felt less like learning something new and more like remembering

something we'd forgotten.

That women are powerful.
That birth doesn't automatically need to be managed.
That freedom and self-responsibility belong together.

I've since supported more freebirths than hospital births.

And there's a reason for that.

I trust you.

I don't arrive believing I know your body better than you do. I trust your ability to understand information, weigh up risk, ask questions, change your mind and make decisions for yourself.

That doesn't mean pretending emergencies can't happen or that medical care never has a place.

It means understanding that birth isn't a medical emergency simply because it's birth.

What does freebirth support actually look like?

Freebirth doesn't mean doing nothing and hoping for the best.

For the families I support, preparation matters. We spend time understanding physiological birth, talking through what labour and birth might look like, exploring the decisions you may face and thinking about the things you want to have in place before your baby arrives.

We may explore:

Preparing your birth space

Where you want to birth, birth pools, practical preparation and creating an environment where you feel safe and comfortable.

Understanding birth

Physiological labour, birth positions, comfort measures, pushing and birthing your baby, third stage and birthing the placenta.

Understanding your rights & navigating services

Understanding the legalities of freebirth, your rights, navigating maternity & social services

Thinking through the unexpected

Talking through possible complications, what you might need at home, recognising when something doesn't feel right & when you might choose to seek medical support.

After your baby is born

The first hours after birth, cord care, the placenta, feeding, newborn observations, Vitamin K, newborn screening and the practicalities of birth notification and registration.

Preparing your birth partner

Helping them understand what normal birth can look and sound like, how they can support you and what their role might be if something changes.

Freebirth can bring questions about your legal rights, maternity services and sometimes social services involvement. I help you understand the legal framework around freebirth, know your rights, prepare for conversations with healthcare professionals and understand what to expect if other services become involved. This is something I believe every family considering freebirth should understand before making their decisions.

My approach was shaped through my doula training with When Push Comes to Shove (WPCTS), a sovereign birth and maternity organisation whose work is rooted in physiological birth, informed consent, women's rights, autonomy and a woman's right to birth on her own terms.

Advocacy sits at the heart of their work. Their training challenges the over-medicalisation of birth and prepares doulas to support families navigating maternity systems, including those experiencing pressure around choices that fall outside standard maternity pathways.

That philosophy is deeply woven into the way I work: supporting you to understand your options and your rights without taking over your decisions or speaking for you.

I now also mentor trainee doulas with When Push Comes to Shove, supporting the next generation of doulas coming through the same training that helped shape my own practice.

I am currently undertaking The Conduit maternity training, further developing my trauma-informed approach to supporting families navigating maternity, safeguarding and other complex systems.
